Martial Arts

I am currently a 3rd Dan Black Belt in the Japanese Martial Art of Aikido. All those who don't know what Aikido is, I shall explain..

Aikido is probably one of the hardest Martial Arts you can learn, it's strictly for defence only and we are trained NOT to harm our attacker but to defend ourselves from them.

Yes, we can dislocate limbs if we wish but that is not the essence of Aikido. You simply move with the attackers attack and re-direct the energy thus moving him off balance and they fall over all by themselves.

If they get up and and attack again, we simply place them down on the floor again using locks, pins etc a bit like Ju-Jitsu.

I have studying Aikido for over 15yrs now and still I am learning, that is what is so great about Aikido. We don't train to punch or kick to break someones nose or other limbs, that is wrong as we can be arrested for assault etc.

By simply moving and turning they themselves harm themselves without any effort from myself. If they continue to attack (if they can stand that is) down they go again untill they are too tired to continue or feel that humiliated they stop and walk away. That way both people, attacker and defender are not hurt

Re: Martial Arts

Wow! Very impressive. I have to just mouth my opposition into submission ;)

15 years you must enjoy it tremendously. Very cool and I will mind my tongue with you being a computer wizard and a blackbelt you just might have a way to come through my screen and kick my butt :omg:

Re: Martial Arts

When my boys were young they both wanted to get into martial arts so badly. We lived in a very remote location though, our nearest market to get even simple things like milk took 20 minutes to get to and the place for Martial Arts would have taken about an hour and a half each way. It was just impossible for me to commit to that for 2 boys who would have been in 2 different classes.

Now I notice a lot more facilities in our area. The one place you can actually see the little ones in there doing their moves, it so fun to watch the little ones.
