Childcare: Daycare & Sitters
Olivia is the first of mine to go to a daycare center. When the boys were younger my Grandparent's kept an eye on them for me. Needless to say the thoughts of putting Olivia in daycare absolutely terrified me. I had watched too many Dateline and 20/20 episodes. I did find what I think is the perfect place for her. She seems so content. Looking back, I would have never chosen to have someone other than my Grandparents watch the boys, but I think knowing what I know now I would have found an organized play date or preschool for them to attend a day or 2 a week. Livy really does love it. It has worked out wonderfully for us.

Re: Childcare: Daycare & Sitters
it's great that she loves daycare, and great that she loves seeing you when you pick her up!

Re: Childcare: Daycare & Sitters
My daughter was looked after my her Grandparents (my in-laws).... and I was worried when it came to her brother needing daycare whilst I was at work that they no longer were well enough to have him.
He went to a 'minder' and he loved it........ he met and played with other children and it made him even more socially well adjusted than he already was.

Re: Childcare: Daycare & Sitters
I had the best babysitter in the world. She had a special needs daughter and had never worked outside the home. She also had 2 grandchildren the same age as my oldest and 2 the same age as my youngest. None of her grandchildren drank much milk so when her daughters would get their WIC vouchers, they would give me milk. My kids love milk. I never had to take anything other than diapers. In the mornings, she would strip them down to t shirts and diapers in the summer so if I wanted to go some where after work, they would be nice and clean. She gave me clothes her grandchildren outgrew and provided all meals. She always said that she had to feed her grandchildren so there was no need to bring extra food for mine. She would just feed them all the same. She even potty trained both of my boys. Most of the time, they did not want to go home when I came to pick them up. Which, IMO, is the best way to tell if your kids are being treated well. The best thing was that she charged only 10 dollars a day for both boys. She said that she is a home anyway and she loved having children around. She had 8 kids of her own. Besides, her daughters, paid the same thing I did plus she had 4 other kids she kept in the evenings and 1 she kept during the graveyard shift. I guess she was ok with what she made, @ 275 a week. Now, many years later, my kids still remember her and will go and hug her everytime we see her out.

Re: Childcare: Daycare & Sitters
That had to be the greatest feeling~ wow you found a wonderful woman. Obviously she just did it for the love of the kids and to allow families to make it~ what a giving person and how lucky for your family.
