posticon Lexapro and Me

A gal at the office said today out of the blue that she has noticed I seemed in better spirits (thought wow thi pills are a miracle ;) ) . At work I am a bit private about certain things. She knows to some degree things have been stressful, but I didn't get into the full meat and potatoes with her (have to keep a shred of dignity). She is such a wonderful person to work with. Some of the things I am dealing with would probably be shocking to her, although she is the mother of 5 so that would be difficult. She has a very strong marriage, there are just certain things she wouldn't understand.

When she said that though, I really lit up. And it has stuck with me today. Made me feel a little less guilty (and I don't think that's the correct word but the only one I can think of right now) about having to go to the doc, spill my guts and ask for help.

It seems I hit a certain point and dealing with that and then having to go admit it to someone just broke me down even farther. Building back up though, folks are taking notice and that makes it easier- there's magic in those tablets I think ;)

 :hooray

glad the lexapro is helping you! :hrts

it actually did nothing for me :( - but everyone's different

for a while I was taking a bunch of stuff to pull me out of the black hole I was in

finally hit upon effexor, and for a while I was taking a high dose of that - have gotten the dosage down now

now if I could reliably get sleep - things might look a lot brighter ... :omg:

so glad you are feeling better! I can definitely empathize

:trihrt

Sleep is a huge issue for me. I see every passing hour. It is very rare I sleep for longer than an hour without at least looking at the clock. I am not getting up and out of the bed but I wake up. It drives me crazy. Sometimes I don't easily fall back to sleep. Come morning I am the sleepiest person on the planet. I mentioned the sleep issue to the doc, but said we would worry about that at a later time because other issues were more pressing.

Now when I take the melatonin it gets me righted for a bit. But I don't like taking pills. So when things get bad I break it out and take it for couple days and then quit. Now that I am on this stuff I am scared to even take as much as a Tylenol with it so No melatonin crossing these lips. I told the doc to make sure I wasn't the next Anna Nicole- pills scare me.

yeah - that has been a problem off and on for years with me - the waking up frequently - I went for a couple of years where I don't think I slept longer than 1 hour straight without waking up more than a handful of times - don't know how I was even functioning

now - I absolutely have to take something or I don't even fall asleep :( melatonin and or valerian might get me to fall asleep but I don't sleep well
have been on many different meds to get me to sleep decently, and still be able to get out of bed and or move the next day :( hate it
and recently the restless legs has started up again - that hadn't bothered me for a few years *sigh*
have taken many anti-depressants that have a 'drowsiness' side effect - some have worked for a while then stopped - klonopin - which worked for a bit, then stopped, and when we tried to up the dose I was toooooooo tired the next day

gah! how can you be so tired and not able to sleep??? :roar:

*sigh*

One of the meds my son is on is Melatonin(he's 15 & autistic). It's great stuff in his regards, over the counter, & affordable.
Lost, I might also add Lavender Oil(available at any pharmacy or herbal shop) also helps. Few drops on the pillow @ night, works a treat as it helps relax the central nervous system.I speak from experience. :)

thanks love! :hrts I have just started using the 'essential oil warmer' in the bedroom before I go to sleep - I swear by lavender for a lot of things - actually does help migraines even!!!
maybe it helps - certainly can't hurt anything, and I do love the fragrance :trihrt

That's the beauty of such things. Wont interfere with scripts or such but will at the very least provide a wonderful fragrance(which relaxes one).
Love the smell of it on me pillow......Just drift away :)

I have never heard of the essential oil warmer or even using the lavender oil, but I am going to try that. I love the smell of lavender.

Red posted a link regarding "natural meds". I haven't had the chance to log in and take a look around, but it might have information regarding this as well.

I am thinking I read on one of Jinz's boards that April is the month for Autism Awareness. It's looks as if we might now have a few people who have knowledge in regards & that could come in very helpful. Once I verify that I did indeed read it is April, I would like to post something because I do think awareness, information and knowledge is so very important.

Re: Lexapro and Me

Lavender is excellent for inducing sleep and relaxation. I toyed with taking an aromatherapy elective class through my school but had no time this quarter. I think all these natural aids are very interesting and I would only caution everyone that if you are taking any prescriptive medication, make sure there is no drug-interactions between the two. Glad the Lexapro seems to be working also 1lost1. It takes a number of weeks to build up therapeutic levels in your bloodstream. Should you need or want to come off it, be very careful and ask your doc about the weaning period for it. Sleep is obviously an issue and as the little one gets older, it should get better and better. Sounds like you are on the right track! :hrts

Re: Lexapro and Me

Luckily for me Olivia has slept through the night from day 1. She goes down at 7:00 pm and we see her no earlier than 12 hours later. My babies were all sleepers & I am thankful.

Wondering if you know by chance... my doc is only in Tuesday's and Thursday's. I am getting a cold, are over the counter cold meds safe with Lexapro and is a Tylenol. I have the worst headache today (possibly sinus with this cold) my head is thumping and I might actually have to brave it and take either a tylenol or cold med. All that ssri and other intial warnings scare me because I haven't educated myself as to what they mean yet.
