First Preserves of the Season!!

Well we made our first jams (jelly to the yanks among us - altho' we don't strain we use the full fruit so there are bits!) yesterday!! So exciting as we haven't managed to get a proper veg garden going this year and what we had done was trampled by the horses when we were away on hols...boo hoo!

We made blackcurrant & apple jam - our own blackcurrants and then some cooking apples. It's yummy!!!

Today we did our usual 4mile walk and picked wild raspberries from the hedgerows so we're going to make blackcurrant & raspberry jam this evening!! Also there are tons of crab apples (wild apples - v.small and sour but make amazing jelly - this time it is strained and is a clear red jelly) on the hedgerows - i guess the last 5wks of non-stop rain has brought them on so we'll be making lots of crab apple jelly and crab apple & blackberry jelly in a month or so's time!! Yum! The kids devour it so quickly tho'.....

that sounds so fun ~ I remember going with my mom when I was little to collect berries and we made jams (she left ours be meaty too). I used to love it.

Jimmy and I are going to can this summer ~ we hope. We wanted to lat year but with the baby being so tiny I didn't. This year we hope to though.

Enjoy emoticon
