Barry Bonds close to beating Aaron's record...

He's last I had heard four away from breaking Aaron's record of...let me get this right...is it 754 home runs? But there is such controvery behind this, one of many things is that people are saying he's been taking steroids for a long time. Hello! Lots of athletes take them and don't admit to them. I say if he breaks the record good for him. What do you all think?

I live in Pittsburgh so am familiar with him as he was a Pirate... I do wish the athletes wouldn't take the steroids~ only because of the health risks involved... the other side of that coin is many do and keep in the closet about it, have broken records and their steroid use hasn't been detected. I do think the various leagues need to come to some kind of agreement, fair that clearly states when you get caught doing something unhealthy X is the sanction for that. Make it clear and roll with it.

I hope he is able to break the record & if he used steroids to do so, that really is a shame that he felt the pressure to harm his body in that way for career recognition. Without them he is a great player.

I also feel very strongly that all the leagues should allow for each of their players be it baseball, football, hockey or the like... to come clean admit to their usage, be given help to get off of them and continue playing, penalty. Give everyone a clean slate and from that point on move forward in a way that promotes playing natural without funky performance enhancement drugs.

Giant's fan here
 emoticon

he most definitely used steroids for some of his career - til the whole thing broke open - I would imagine he is clean of them now

I am excited for this - and he is an awesome hitter - even without steroids but the steroid usage does cast a shadow over the accomplishment

I saw him on Leno the other night with the little bitty lady who bakes the cookies ~ her name escapes me, but Leno sends her on interviews. He has changed completely in looks from his time here as a Pirate, at least how I remember him.

I did hear he is a real pr*ck ~ sorry no other word has ever been used to describe him... Have heard numerous times he is so ignorant to fans especially the kids. I don't know, I have never met the guy... But it always irks me when I hear someone who plays professional sports is a emoticon to the fans because if it wasn't for the fans they wouldn't be where they are at.

Exactly. I have heard many many many reports about what an a-hole he is. Plus, have you ever compared pictures of him in his pre-'roid stage of career with now? His head is gigantic (skull enlargement) and he went from being a complete player and hitter to only being power- i.e. home run or strikeout- in like no time flat. Absolutely unheard of.

His personality leaves alot to be desired and I could care less about the specualtion others may have juiced in the past. It is no excuse for him. He is possibly on the verge of being discovered (Balco anyone?), still continues with it, and will ultimately pay the price down the road in health matters. Maybe then he'll finally come clean, but I don't think that oversized ego of his will ever allow him to. I also think him and his whole story casts a pall on the Giants and divided fans for the wrong reasons (does he or doesn't he?).

I say break the record- whatever. I know I won't be watching. Anything that may require an asterisk in record books is in my opinion HOLLOW. He is one of the many reasons i can't stand to watch baseball.

Sorry for the rant, but it really irks me.....

If he breaks it that's cool, but karma's a you know what. Whatever you do to someone will come back to bite you in the butt sooner or later. All the people he's treated like dirt will come back to haunt him one day.

Sushi Joint Takes Dig At Bonds
In Dig At Slugger Barry Bonds, Colorado Sushi Restaurant Celebrates Its Steroid-Free Meat

(AP) As Barry Bonds pushes for home run No. 755 to tie one of baseball's most hallowed records, a Colorado sushi restaurant is celebrating the man who set the record _ Hank Aaron.

Hapa Sushi Grill ran a half-page ad Thursday in the satirical weekly The Onion that read "Congratulations Hank Aaron on 755 home runs." At the bottom of the page, the ad continues: "Organic beef and chicken, no added steroids." Full-page ads are planned for two Boulder, Colo., daily newspapers starting Friday.

Hapa, which has two locations in Boulder and one in Denver, previously has used skinny sumo wrestlers and flaming bags of fast-food hamburgers in its ads to promote its healthy Japanese food.

Hapa founder Mark Van Grack said the ad taps into the Bond controversy to promote his business but it also sends a message like other previous ads for the company.

"Think about what you're doing. Be healthy. You don't need steroids do something great, as Hank Aaron did," he said of the message.

Jonathan Schoenberg of TDA Advertising & Design in Boulder, who created the ad, said it's intended as a tribute to Aaron. But he acknowledged it's also a roundabout dig at Barry Bonds, who has been accused of using steroids. Bonds has long denied doping.

"It's just a reminder that people are questioning the legitimacy of his breaking this incredible record," said the 39-year-old Schoenberg, who grew up admiring Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson and Thurman Munson as a New York Yankees fan in the 1970s.

He said he got the idea about a month ago after reading Aaron didn't plan on watching Bonds tie the record.

Schoenberg said he still feels bad for Bonds, because the steroid allegations will cloud his accomplishments.

"You're so famous for something you don't want to be famous for," he said.
