Autism and Roleplaying

I've thought and thought on this one, and can't seem to explain it. For me, it isn't just acting, I'm actually putting myself in my various characters' shoes. How is it I can have this ability when roleplaying, but can't seem to translate it to the real world?
emoticon
For that matter, I'm not entirely sure how I came across the ability, contradicting apergers normal inability to concieve of other points of view as it does.

This thread struck me. I know Justin who is 19 with A/S has a desire to act. It struck me as an odd choice for him, but he really has the desire. I know he loves to perform for my boys. He often sings songs ~ they ask for a mini concert and he will sing the Bee Gees ~ He does quite well. It's as if when he puts on the mini concert he is very comfortable being in the role of Barry Gibb.

We have had so much fun with it. Not at his expense either ~ it's something we all enjoy.

How are his performance skills, out of curiosity? I love singing too, and even have a performance assesment coming up for school, but while my technical skill is already better in my nearly one year than those who have been going to lessons for nearly three years, my performance is sadly lacking.

He sings very well. When he isn't thinking about what he looks like, he looks like a natural, but both boys as well as myself think it is very evident when he is thinking about "his moves" & how he looks. It is noticeable to the 3 of us. His Uncle Jimmy on the other hand isn't able to see a difference. He only performs for the 4 of us and my 2 year old daughter. I don't ask him to sing when his grandparents come over because I feel like if he wants to he will. You can see him light right up with pride though when my boys stop over to visit, he knows they will ask and if we get sidetracked, talking about something else, for them he will offer. They ask and he is comfortable with them asking.

Justin is 19 and curious how old you are if you are comfortable answering if not, that's fine too.
Have you always had the desire to perform?

Best of Luck with your assessment. Be sure to let us know how it goes. Try not to be nervous.

Haha that's why I'm doing my singing, not my cello. Cello was too much pressure and I just wasn't good enough yet.

I'm 14. I've always enjoyed singing and acting, but not so much as a desire to perform as just loving the activities. More recently there was also dancing, but between bad genes and starting late I've eventually had to stop because I cannot handle the level I am at.

Well my dancing is horrible. Bad genes here too I like to think, but I enjoy it :) We have a gal who stops in here from time to time and her son plays the cello. It's a beautiful sounding instrument.

What song/s will you be singing? Do you have to dress up as well?

We don't have to dress up, but it improves our marks if we do so well. I'm not going to - it won't be well. emoticon
I'm singing "Beauty and the Beast" and "Moment Like This", as they are the most in my range. It's hard to find songs like that - I'm mezzo-soprano, and it's about as easy to find music for my range as it is to find viola solos. emoticon

Hope it goes fantastic. And I know for me I am not the best dancer, but I enjoy it. We all can't be Pavarotti / Sills or Elton John and Eric Clapton ~ I commend you so much for getting up there and doing it. Wow. I don't think I could. I would panic. So cheers for just getting up there ~ marks are important, but preparation and enjoyment count as well, at least to me. I think you are so brave for performing in front of a crowd.

Is your sister musical as well? Does she have the desire in her to perform? (she is welcome to pop in too by the way. I am not sure if she enjoys the internet or if it would be appropriate for her, but she is very welcomed to join us). We are a friendly group and we have what I would call honest to goodness life experts in A/S who frequent here. I know I have learned and continue to learn so much daily. Very thankful for it.

Actually very thankful for all the company kept here. Everyone is just genuinely good hearted and fun too. It's a nice balance.

So when exactly will you be taking the stage? We'll be pulling for you :)

Two weeks, I believe. And you could hardly call the senior music class a crowd. emoticon I believe it is about six people on a good day.

Actually, I have two brothers and two sisters, all younger than me, but only the youngest of the sisters gets mentioned because she's the only one with AS. And she's really a bit young to be here, even though she'd be keen to come purely because I enjoy forums. I call her my 'limpet' because of her tendancy to cling to me. She really does love me, but my personal space issues mean that her clinging is not always a good thing... :-\

I chuckled when I read this. Sounds just like me and my youngest brother. He is 10 years younger and was like a second skin to me. I am loner for a portion of the day. I like a daily dose of alone time. He used to drive me buggy at times, but looking back it was so cool too. We're still close, very close even as adults. I am the oldest in my family as well. I have two brothers. Would have loved to have had a sister, but I have a few amazing friends that couldn't be closer to me than sisters so that fills the void very nicely.

You still get points for the crowd of 6 ~ that would be a crowd for me. Just enjoy yourself that's actually going to be a memory of a lifetime. I look back and think about often different things in highschool, that at the time I didn't think much about, but they do stick with you.
